Race Day Merch

Race Day Merch is part of the tradition as much as the race itself—gear made for long days on the sand, salt in the air, and a front-row seat to the action. From shirts to drink wristbands, it’s all designed to feel like Grayton: easygoing, a little worn-in, and built to last beyond a single day. Pick something up, wear it well, and you’re part of the story.

The History of Rags to Riches Regatta — Grayton Beach, FL

Born on the beaches of Grayton Beach in 1981, the Rags to Riches Regatta is more than a race—it’s a living piece of South Walton history. What started as a laid-back Fourth of July challenge between local sailors has grown into one of the most beloved traditions along 30A.

Each summer, a fleet of 16′ beach catamarans launches from the sugar-white sands of Grayton Beach, racing east toward Seagrove Beach before turning back toward home. It’s a course shaped by wind, waves, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting — exactly the way the founders intended.

The name itself tells the story. Back in the early days, Grayton locals jokingly called themselves the “rags,” while their neighbors in Seagrove were the “riches.” The race became a playful rivalry, fueled by bragging rights, cold beer, and a deep love for the Gulf.

Today, that same spirit lives on. The regatta brings together seasoned sailors, first-time racers, and a beach full of spectators who come for the show and stay for the community. It’s competitive, unpredictable, and unapologetically fun — but at its core, it’s about something bigger.

Proceeds from the event support local organizations like the South Walton Artificial Reef Association, helping protect and enhance the very waters these sailors race across.

From its humble beginnings to its modern revival, the Rags to Riches Regatta remains a celebration of freedom, tradition, and the kind of beach culture that can’t be manufactured — only carried forward.

The Rags to Riches Regatta is a longtime Grayton Beach tradition celebrating community, competition, and the coastal spirit that defines 30A. Each year, sailors, locals, and visitors come together for a day on the water and on the sand, supporting the preservation and growth of the place we call home.
